About us
A context-based approach to mental health
What sets Room To Talk apart?
Room To Talk is your safe space for therapy and transformation. Our nonprofit practice specializes in conditions — depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, hypervigilance — that arise from stressful life circumstances. Symptoms of poor mental health are not necessarily evidence of “illness,” but may be reasonable adaptations to unreasonable circumstances. As circumstances change over time, those adaptations may lose their usefulness and become barriers to growth.
We embrace all aspects of diversity, and accept several types of health insurance, including Medicaid plans.
Our space is warm and cozy, and includes other programs that support emotional and economic health.
Sounds like a welcoming place, right? Here’s what our clients say about us:
It’s your choice
We believe that therapy should enhance your self-determination: you determine the content and your therapist guides the process. What you talk about is up to you.
We encourage you to shop around for someone who matches your schedule, insurance, and values. If, after 3 sessions, you are not feeling comfortable and safe in the relationship, let us know that you would prefer to try someone else. We do not take it personally. An experienced therapist recognizes that they cannot be all things to all people. We will make every effort to help you find another Room To Talk practitioner or refer you to a reputable therapeutic practice elsewhere.
Our psychotherapists come from multicultural backgrounds. We have specialized training in working with adults of all backgrounds and abilities: single parents, caregivers to aging parents, people who identify as queer or LGBTQIA2+, and those from non-English- speaking communities.
Room To Talk psychotherapists keep up to date with the latest evidence-based practices for anxiety, depression and trauma. We chose to work together because of a shared interest in applying these techniques in culturally-sensitive ways.
We are committed to social justice: our therapists contribute a portion of their income to make it possible for folks without health insurance — or who cannot afford to use their insurance — to access the support they need.
